The Program
The system we have NETRecorder+, is a networked recording and viewing system designed for implementation across a network, for quick and easy access by staff to any audio/visual resource they require. It has three unique attributes;
- The ability to book a recording on any free-to-air channel.
- The ability to view any recordings in both your institute and outside (ERA license permitting)
- The ability to catagorise and organise recordings to benefit yourselves and learners.
The interface is simple, and designed so that staff can spend a mere minutes booking their recordings in advance for a whole week and knowing that everything will be ready for them when they are needed. The entire system is automated, including the cataloguing of recordings, needing very little management, and requiring minimal oversight.
Viewing is as simple as keyword searching, or adding the programmes you use most often to your favourites library. These can then be projected onto a interactive whiteboard or a large screen for use in lecture halls and classrooms. The entire system is built on the premise that a staff member can access any audio/visual resource anywhere on any of the Institutes campuses across the town, allowing for rapid deployment and better utilisation of resources for all concerned.
We built this system from the ground up to best meet the needs of our staff and students.
Both Staff and Students have access to the system. However, only staff can make recordings. This is controlled by their network login, where a staff member has to be logged in in order to view the recording schedule and book a recording. This means that if they make a mistake they can then delete their own recordings, but cannot affect any recordings made by another staff member.
Viewing is not passworded, however the IP of the internal Institute computer is logged, so that the usage and deployment of the system can be assessed and evaluated. Allowing us to monitor exactly which programmes are being watched, where they are being watched and when.
